Get The Squeeze on Holly Ferguson
What is your role, title and discipline? Holly Ferguson, Senior Visual Designer
What office do you sit in? Chicago!
Who do you sit next to? Caite Schultz (fun fact, we went to college together in Oklahoma)
How long have you been with Isobar? A little over three years
Did you have any interesting jobs or a different career before this? Nope! I am lucky to have started with isobar as an intern out of school and have been here ever since.
What is your favorite aspect of your job? Why? No day is the same. Being able to come to work and design something new every day is pretty amazing. I also really love the team I work with — they make me love my job more and more.
Share an elevator pitch of your day-to-day. Need a healthy lifestyle program for 50 year olds? I’m your girl. Also, very well versed in designing with triangles… (flip50!)
What do you do to prepare you for your day? I am usually one of the first ones in on the creative team in Chicago and that is my me time. I like to drink my coffee, eat my Costco protein bar, read my emails and set goals for my day.
What media do you most consume and why? All the reddit all the time. r/Aww and r/AskReddit are my personal favs.
What is your biggest distraction at work? I sit with the creative team. We are generally loud people.
What is one thing your co-workers would be surprised to learn about you? I know my Chicago creatives know this, but I did a lot of competitive acting growing up, or otherwise known as speech. I know, it’s weird… but I was surprisingly good at it and was a state champion in Dramatic Duet. It was a really big part of my life growing up and I almost pursued acting in college.
What are you listening too right? A Star is Born soundtrack!!!!! I saw the movie this past weekend and I cannot stop listening. Gah, I love Gaga.
Are you from Chicago or somewhere else? Where did you grow up? I am from Edmond, OK which is a suburb of Oklahoma City. For college, I moved a whole 45 minutes from home to attend the University of Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner!) After graduation, I moved to Chicago with my now Fiancé who is from the Chicago suburbs. Growing up in Oklahoma has made me really appreciate living in a big city and being able to get things after 9pm. Also, being an Okie means I have an irrational love for Oklahoma football and generally can be found any Saturday in September through December at the OU Club of Chicago screaming at a television.
What was the best concert you ever attended? I’m not sure…Maybe Jesse McCartney when I was 12 because the hype was REAL. (Beautiful soul? Come on!) But, I am going to Elton John in 3 weeks and I’m sure that will definitely fill this space.
What show are you currently watching? I have a slight problem with Grey’s Anatomy where I just continue to watch that show over and over and over. All 15 seasons. I am almost positive I could do surgery on someone just from watching that show – 10 blade.
What artist (in any genre) do you most admire? I absolutely love Jessica Hische. She is an incredible typographer who I have followed since I knew what design was. She creates such elegance with her typography. It is so inspiring to look through her work. Also, I want all of her posters.
Ketchup or Mustard? A tad of both
Pizza: Thin crust or deep dish? DEEP DISH. But honestly all the pizza works.
Coffee or tea? Coffee (former Starbucks barista here)
VR or AR? VR
Pancakes or waffles? Can I have both? Yes, both.
Beer or wine? Again… can I have both?
Cake or Pie? Pie! Blackberry!
City or suburb? City, but also grass is nice too.
Beach vacation or mountain resort? Give me a beach and a fruity cocktail and I’m set for life.
Chocolate or vanilla? Vanilla
Hot or cold? Hot
East coast or west coast? West coast
GMA or Today Show? Today (How’s it doing in your neck of the woods?)
Sweet or salty? Sweet!
