LEARN AND EXPERIMENT WITH SMART PARTNERS
Companies such as Progressive Insurance have been building toward the smart world paradigm for more than a decade, with strategic acquisitions, patent filings, and product rollouts. But most companies and marketing leaders don’t have this track record. Even if this is new to you, take heart: It’s actually cheaper and easier than ever to rapidly experiment by piggybacking on off-the-shelf technologies.

Hire agencies with service design expertise. Service design is an approach relatively new to marketers, but fortunately, many of the agencies that offer it are not. (see endnote 23) First, ask your existing digital agencies for examples of service design work ? many have developed practices based upon their usability heritage.
